Do Not Support Christian Businesses…

Do not support Christian businesses… unless you like the idea of blessing a brother or sister in Christ.

Uhhhh… okay, so maybe that warning sign is not exactly giving the full story. Ha ha ha. The image is meant to grab attention, but the real message is pretty simple: as Christians, we should care about where our money goes. We should care who we support. We should care about helping people in the family of faith when we have the chance.

Every time you spend money, you are supporting somebody. You are helping a business keep going. You are helping someone pay bills, feed their family, hire employees, serve customers, and keep building what they started. That is true whether you think about it or not.

So when you choose to support a Christian-owned business, it can be more than just buying a product or paying for a service. It can be a small way to encourage someone who is trying to honor God in their work. Are all Christian businesses perfect? Nope. Not even close. People are still people, and business can get messy; IYKYK.

Unless You Care Where Your Money Goes

Most of us spend money all week long. Sometimes it is planned. Sometimes it is because we walked into a store hungry, and suddenly we “needed” snacks, coffee, and something from the clearance rack. It happens. No judgement.

But the point is, money moves. And where it moves matters. When Christians support each other, it helps build stronger families, stronger local communities, and stronger businesses that may share similar values.

  • You might bless a brother or sister in Christ.
  • You might support someone trying to work with honesty and intergrity.
  • You might help a family-owned business keep growing.
  • You might encourage better service, better care, and more accountability.
  • You might help your dollars support something good.

Again, this does not mean you can only shop with Christian businesses forever and ever. That would be hard, and honestly, probably impossible. But when you do have a choice, why not be intentional?

If you need a haircut, a plumber, a real estate agent, a photographer, a tech person, a contractor, a gift shop, or some other service, it makes sense to at least look for a Christian business first. Maybe they are the right fit. Maybe they are not. But starting there is not a bad idea.

Supporting Christian Businesses Is a Simple Way to Build Community

One of the easiest ways to support Christian business owners is to remember them, refer them, and review them. That may sound simple because it is simple. You do not need a giant plan. You do not need a committee meeting. Please, no more committee meetings.

If you had a good experience with a Christian-owned business, tell someone. Leave them a positive review. Share their post. Tag them when someone asks for a recomendation. That kind of support can matter a lot, especially for small business owners who are trying to get found and stay busy.

And yes, sometimes people overthink this. They act like supporting Christian businesses means every transaction has to be deep and emotional. It doesn’t. Sometimes it is just, “Hey, I need this service, and I would rather support someone who shares my faith if I can.” That is it. Simple. Normal. Helpful.

So yes, the image says, “Do not support Christian businesses.” But then comes the “unless…”

Unless you want to bless a brother or sister in Christ. Unless you care about integrity. Unless you want your money to support something good. Unless you think Christians should help each other succeed when it makes sense.

If that sounds like you, then maybe it is time to be a little more intentional about where you spend, who you hire, and who you recommend.
