Is on Team Jesus Like the Money Changers in the Temple?
Some people may wonder if on Team Jesus is doing the same kind of thing Jesus condemned when He flipped tables in the temple. That is a fair question. Anytime the name of Jesus is connected to money, business, marketing, or promotion, Christians should pause and think carefully. We should never use the name of Jesus in a cheap, careless, greedy, or manipulative way.
But there is a big difference between what was happening in the temple and what on Team Jesus is trying to do. Jesus was angry because people were using God’s house to take advantage of worshipers. on Team Jesus is not doing that. We are not in the temple. We are not in a church sanctuary. We are not standing between people and worship. We are not selling access to God. We are not charging people to pray, read the Bible, hear the Gospel, or be part of the body of Christ.
on Team Jesus is a Christian business directory. The goal is simple: help Christians find and support Christian-owned businesses. That is very different.
Why Jesus Flipped the Tables
When Jesus entered the temple and saw what was happening, He was angry. People had turned a place of worship into a place of greed. This was not just honest business happening somewhere in town. This was happening in the temple courts. People were coming to worship God, and others were using that sacred place for profit.
Jesus said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you make it a den of robbers.” That was the issue. The temple was supposed to point people to God. Instead, corrupt people were getting in the way.
That is not what on Team Jesus is about. We are not trying to profit from worship. We are not trying to replace the church. We are not trying to sell the Gospel. We are not saying someone is more spiritual because they own a business or pay for a directory listing.
We are simply saying this: if Christians are already going to hire a plumber, photographer, roofer, web designer, hair stylist, mechanic, counselor, or any other professional, why not help them find a Christian business owner when possible?
That is not corruption. That is community.
Business Is Not the Problem
The Bible does not condemn honest business. It condemns greed. It condemns lying. It condemns cheating. It condemns taking advantage of people. It condemns loving money more than God. But business itself is not evil.
Christian business owners have families to feed, bills to pay, employees to support, customers to serve, skills to use, and God-given gifts to steward. A Christian who owns a business is not doing something wrong just because money is involved.
In fact, business can be a mission field. A Christian business owner can honor God by being honest, doing excellent work, treating customers fairly, telling the truth, keeping promises, and serving people well. That does not mean Christian business owners are perfect. They are not. But it does mean our faith should shape the way we work.
Christians Should Support Christians
The Christian life was never meant to be lived alone. The early church cared for one another. They prayed for one another. They gave to one another. They encouraged one another. They helped meet real needs.
Today, one practical way we can support each other is by doing business with other believers when it makes sense. That does not mean you are required to hire a Christian every single time. It does not mean every Christian business will be the best option. It does not mean you should ignore quality, pricing, reviews, or professionalism. But it does mean that when you have a choice, supporting another believer can be a good thing.
Why send every dollar to giant companies that often hate your values, mock your faith, or promote things that stand against Scripture? When possible, why not support Christian business owners who are trying to serve their customers, provide for their families, and honor God in their work?
That is part of the heart behind on Team Jesus.
The Gospel Is Not for Sale
This part matters more than anything else. The Gospel is not for sale. Salvation cannot be bought. Forgiveness cannot be purchased. Eternal life is not earned through money, church attendance, good behavior, business success, or religious effort.
The Bible teaches that we have all sinned against God. We have lied. We have stolen. We have lusted. We have been prideful. We have used God’s name carelessly. We have hated others in our hearts. We have loved ourselves more than God. And because God is holy and just, sin must be punished.
The hard truth is this: we deserve hell. That may sound offensive in our culture, but it is true. God is not just a slightly bigger version of us. He is perfectly holy. He is perfectly righteous. He cannot ignore sin.
But here is the good news. God did not leave us without hope. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
That is the Gospel. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, lived the perfect life we failed to live. He never sinned. He never lied. He never lusted. He never stole. He never dishonored the Father. Then He willingly died on the cross for sinners. He took the punishment we deserve. He was buried. Then on the third day, He rose from the dead, proving He is Lord and that His payment for sin was accepted.
Now God commands all people to repent and believe the Gospel. That means turning from sin and trusting in Jesus Christ alone to save you. Not your good works. Not your church background. Not your religious label. Not your business. Not your family. Not your money. Christ alone.
Why This Matters for on Team Jesus
on Team Jesus is not about making Christianity a brand. It is not about pretending every Christian business owner is perfect. It is not about using faith as a marketing trick. It is about connection.
It is about helping Christians find each other. It is about strengthening the Christian community in a practical way. We believe faith should affect more than Sunday morning. It should affect how we live, how we speak, how we serve, how we spend, and how we support one another.
If you are a Christian looking for a business, we encourage you to search for Christian-owned businesses and support them when you can. If you are a Christian business owner, we encourage you to join on Team Jesus so other believers can find you.
Not because being listed makes you better than anyone else. Not because a directory listing proves your faith. But because visibility matters. Community matters. Supporting one another matters.
The world is loud. The culture is shifting. Many businesses are proud to promote values that oppose Scripture. So maybe it is time Christians became more intentional. Not isolated. Not angry. Not weird. Just intentional.
Intentional about encouraging each other. Intentional about supporting each other. Intentional about doing good work. Intentional about pointing people to Christ.
That is the heart behind on Team Jesus.
Not flipping tables. Building bridges.
Not selling the Gospel. Sharing it.
Not turning the church into a marketplace. Helping Christians find each other in the marketplace.
